CubaMar's mission is to support collaborative scientific research between Cuba, the U.S. and neighboring countries, in order to advance and inform marine conservation policy efforts in Cuba and the Wider Caribbean.
Our vision is to:
CubaMar has collaborated with key Cuban institutions such as the Center for Marine Research (CIM) of the University of Havana and the Cuban Ministry of Science Technology and Environment (CITMA) for over 15 years, the longest of any U.S. based organization. Our unique partnerships ensure a strong foundation of collaborative scientific research to advance and inform conservation policy efforts in Cuba and the Wider Caribbean. Our current projects fall into three categories: Research & Conservation, International Collaboration, and Educational Travel.
Our vision is to:
- Conserve Cuba’s marine ecosystems
- Contribute to the scientific understanding of the region's natural resources
- Establish locally-supported marine research and conservation programs
- Strengthen science diplomacy among U.S. and Caribbean marine biologists
- Empower the next generation of Cuban marine scientists
